Why Food Transparency is Important
From non-GMO dairy to organic nuts in Canada, Millenials are the largest group of consumers out there, and they care a lot about what is in their food. Today’s shoppers are doing more research into ingredients, and working hard to actively avoid processed foods and added sugars. As retailers of healthy packaged snacks, we have made it our mission to make it easier for consumers to find out what they’re really eating.
At the heart of this shifting consumer focus is food transparency. But how does it work for wholesale and private label snacks, and what does it really mean to be transparent with the products you sell? Let’s explore.
What is Food Transparency?
Food transparency is a method of labeling that puts everything that shoppers need to know about a product right on the packaging — without gimmicks, and without hidden ingredients.
Studies show that 76 percent of adults read the label before making a packaged food purchase. And primarily, they are looking for key information about what is (and isn’t) in the ingredient list. This is important both for general health-conscious consumers as well as those with chronic conditions like diabetes, who must closely monitor their sugar intake.
Gone are the days of misleading nutritional claims and snacks laden with ingredients that consumers can’t even pronounce. Shoppers want clear information that’s both accessible and easily understandable. And from our wholesale nuts to our party mixes, we make sure that all of our labels are transparent as possible.
Transparency in Wholesale and Private Label Products
We sell organic snacks wholesale and under private labels, which is why we’ve taken it upon ourselves to heighten transparency whenever and however we can. We understand that, as product manufacturers and distributors, it is our job to ensure that consumers know exactly what they’re buying.
One of the ways that we highlight transparency is by maintaining high certification standards and listing that information right on the packaging. Our certifications include:
- USDA Organic
- Canada Organic
- Montreal Kosher (MK)
- British Retail Consortium (BRC)
- Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP)
- ECOCERT (an organic certification organization)
