Our bulk almonds are more than just a delicious and nutritious snack—they’re also at the height of snack industry trends. Interest has been rising rapidly in plant-based foods as consumers seek alternatives to meat and dairy products. For the almond industry—which operates primarily out of California, where 82% of the global supply of almonds is produced—this has meant an uptick in production and the introduction of a whole slew of new almond-based foods. It’s good news for almond enthusiasts and a trend that retailers should be aware of as they stock their shelves.

At Bassé, we sell raw and wholesale almonds along with a variety of other mixed nuts, dried fruits, edible seeds, and more. Our goal is to make it easy for consumers to find the plant-based snacks they love, which is why we work with retailers across North America to meet current demands. Keep reading to learn more about how the almond industry has evolved and get answers to some common questions about these nutty favorites.

Putting the Almond Trend in Perspective

Late last year, Innova Market Insights released its report on 2020 food trends. Among them, the surge in the plant-based snack revolution, of which almonds serve an incredibly important role.

According to the report, there has been a 68% annual growth for the past five years in plant-based snacking. Modern consumers care strongly about clean eating and sustainability, and these values have been evidenced not just in the U.S. and Canada but around the world. In 2018, almonds were the most popular nut for product introductions in all of Europe, and we’ve seen similar trends here on our own shores.

Today, it’s impossible to talk about plant-based eating without mentioning almonds. These nutrition powerhouses contain high amounts of protein and nutrients and are incredibly versatile. They’re used to create everything from flour and butter to protein powder and milk. There’s pretty much nothing almonds can’t do, which is why this is a trend that’s going to last.
